Sea Star 7

1998 Bayliner LeClercq

South to the Broughton's

Platypus did the crossing the next day and reported that it was like the forecast - small wind waves but 5 foot rollers right on the beam. We had already planned to stay another day or two in Green Island Anchorage waiting for better conditions. Dave wasn’t sure if the stabilizers would keep up with the swell.

The forecast looked a little better the next morning so we decided to head south. The conditions turned out to be about the same that Platypus saw. We had 5-foot swells coming from two directions sometimes aligning up and making a pointed peak. The stabilizers kept up - only getting a little behind once or twice. Lots of fog. Visibility was a quarter mile the whole crossing.

We were heading for Sullivan Bay to meet up with Platypus and Keaton’s parents on Slow Flight. They were on the docks doing some repairs. When they finished a little sooner than expected, they decided to head up to Turnbull Cove. So we took a left just before Sullivan and followed them into the Cove. It was a beautiful and calm anchorage with tons of swinging room - just what we needed after the long and tiring crossing.

The next morning the gang decided to make a short hop to Booker Lagoon. It was foggy the second half of the trip only to clear as we approached the somewhat difficult entrance. The fairway is only 60 feet wide and you have to do it at slack water (high, preferably) otherwise the overfalls and whirlpools can send you into the rocks. We were first and made it through easily. Kelp marks the narrow channel making the dogleg easy to navigate. It was fairly calm so we all rafted up on Sea Star 7’s oversized anchor. Dave sent the drone up to get a shot. Keaton and his cousin Katie went out fishing and came back with a nice King Salmon, a few crabs and 3 shrimp. Melissa made up a feast with crab, salmon followed by spaghetti and meatballs to feed the entire gang.

We are hanging out for a lay-day and let the fishing enthusiasts go play. All in all, they came back with 5 salmon, a dozen crabs and 7 shrimp. OK, we need to figure out the shrimp thing because the gal that joined us for Happy Hour at Lagoon Cove caught 100 prawns the day we arrived.
