Sea Star 7

1998 Bayliner LeClercq

Not Good News

With winds forecast to come from the south, it was time to leave Tribune Bay, unfortunately. The bay is totally open south to the Straights of Georgia. We left Tribune Bay for False Bay on Lasqueti Island. Arriving there, we did not like the looks of the anchorage - it was crowded and not that protected. So, we went over to Fairwinds Marina for a night. It is a beautiful marina with brand new docks but not our favorite because it is in the middle of nowhere.

The next morning was a little rough with 3 foot seas right on the nose. Dave took the little bit longer route around Newcastle Island for a smoother ride. When we got to Dodd’s Narrows, two humpback whales decided to transit northbound. They surfaced 50 feet in front of us, we stopped and let them swim by. Amazing that two humpbacks decided to swim through the narrows which are only about 200 feet wide. We anchored in Ladysmith Harbour where we used to spend weekends on Apsaras years ago.

A boat named Good News called the Coast Guard on the VHF. They found themselves on the reef entering Pirates Cove. Not good news. Dave has thought about going in there but never liked the description of the reefs around the entrance. I guess that makes two of us, now.

Platypus came across the Straights of Georgia from Garden Bay yesterday and stayed the night in front of Nanaimo in Mark Bay. Rachel did not enjoy the crossing spending most of the day lying on the floor in the main salon. They tied along side SS7 Tuesday evening and the four of us went ashore for dinner at the Manana Marina. Nice marina and restaurant. We will be moving the boat over there when the Murphy's arrive Thursday. Melissa is making a big batch of chili for the Seahawks game tonight.
