Dave has talked to a number of boat diesel mechanics. They are all stumped. Dave continues to hold that it’s probably the high-pressure fuel pump. But the mechanics keep saying that’s just not possible. The high-pressure pumps just don’t fail.
Today the lead mechanic from Man engine (that’s the brand of engine it is) came to take a look. They do the same thing that everyone does – try to bleed the injectors. Alas.
Ultimately the Man engine tech calls the previous lead Man engine tech, because this is clearly a case where youth and skill are not winning over old age and treachery. The older mechanic agrees with Dave – you gotta pull the high-pressure pump and get it on the bench to see whether it failed.
